The 2024 eBird Taxonomy Update will begin on 22 October. Big changes are already underway to Herring Gulls, House Wrens, and more as we prepare the eBird database for this year's revisions.

Atlas Data Submission Deadline: End of July 2024

New Zealand Bird Atlas finishes on a high
On the 31st May 2024, the Atlas project came to a close after an amazing five years’ worth of Atlasing. This was a project that was dependent on a community united by a shared passion, and we’ve been blown away by how the community have come together to meet the aims of the project.
The New Zealand Bird Atlas is currently underway!
The New Zealand Bird Atlas began on the 1st of June 2019, and runs for 5 years until June 2024. It is the third Birds NZ Atlas, and the first digital NZ Atlas!
October Big Day results– a new record and more than 6,000 species in a day!
More than 18,000 eBirders from 164 countries and territories joined together on 19 October to go birding on the second October Big Day. The global count of 6,497 species broke last year’s total of 6,360 species, setting a new October Big Day record!
November eBirder of the Month challenge
This November's eBirder of the Month challenge, sponsored by Carl Zeiss Sports Optics, is all about the free eBird Mobile app. In a twist on our classic one-list-per-day challenge, the eBirder of the Month will be drawn from eBirders who submit 30 or more eligible checklists using eBird Mobile in November.

October Big Day results—more than 6,000 species in one day!
On 6 October, more than 17,000 birders around the world went birding together for the first October Big Day. Reporting from 146 countries, they tallied 6,136 species of birds: more than half of the world's birds in a single day.
