What to Watch for in Winter

Everyone loves to look for Snowy Owls, but did you realize that there is a great diversity of birds to see during the New Hampshire winters? The coast hosts many species of ducks, alcids, and loons that migrate south from the arctic regions for the winter and we are their south! Unless you are checking with binoculars you won’t realize how alive with birds the ocean is in the winter. There are Bald Eagles on the rivers, finches in the mountains, and an occasional Northern Shrike that could be just about anywhere. Read about the many winter species that appear in New Hampshire and where to find them, as well as the enjoyable birding activities that occur during the season in the latest issue of New Hampshire Bird Records. This article is online for free: Winter 2022/2023 issue of New Hampshire Bird Records.
