Mountain Bluebird - Lincoln, Penobscot Co. - 23 Nov 2014
On the morning of November 23rd, Ty Oliver noticed an “odd colored bird on one of the trees” on his way to work and later returned to photograph what is only Maine’s second record for Mountain Bluebird. After submitting the record to eBird (S20724145), he shared the photos with the state reviewers and has allowed us to post them here. Congrats to Ty for a great find and thank you for reporting to eBird!
Of interesting note, this bird was found along River Road (in Lincoln) near the intersection with Route 2. Many birders will remember this location from the Northern Hawk Owl that was present here from 12 November 2013 to 4 March 2014: S15683435
The first record of this species in Maine was from East Royce Mountain in Oxford County on 13 November 2011. A photo of that bird is available here.
