  • May eBirder of the Month Challenge.

    This month’s eBirder of the month challenge, sponsored by Carl Zeiss Sports Optics, is all about birding on Global Big Day! May 14th is the second Global Big Day, a global event bringing birders together around the world for a single day of team birding.

  • Introducing eBird/Macaulay Library Media Search!

    We are excited release eBird/Macaulay Library Media Search, a tool for exploring photos and sounds uploaded through eBird, as well as the full collection of bird sounds and video archived in the Macaulay Library through traditional methods. With more than half a million images and thousands of audio files uploaded to eBird over the past five months there is plenty to explore!

  • Have you seen any colour-banded gulls or terns?

    As the long, hot dry summer gives way to autumn and winter over the next few months, New Zealand eBirders are encouraged to keep an eye out for colour-banded black-billed gulls and black-fronted terns when out birding in their local ‘patch’.

  • Great Backyard Bird Count 2016!

    February 12-15 (Friday through Monday) is the 19th annual Great Backyard Bird Count (GBBC). To participate, just go birding during this timeframe and make sure to enter your checklists in eBird.

    eBird began in 2002, 14 years ago. In that time, eBird has grown in leaps and bounds from version 1.0, thanks to efforts of eBirders everywhere.

In order to qualify as the first eBirder of the month in 2016, all you have to do is submit an average of one qualifying eBird checklist for each day in January.

    Android users rejoice! eBird Mobile is now available for free in the Google Play store, complementing the iOS version of the app that was released earlier this year.

  • Add Audio to Your eBird Checklist!

    How many times have you been out birding, heard a sound, and thought, “I wish I had a recording of that!” Maybe it was a common bird giving an odd vocalization that you’ve never heard before, or a mystery sound that you want to research when you get home. Or perhaps you were in a quiet, pristine setting with a spectacular dawn chorus.

As announced in early November, we are ecstatic to have our Media Upload tool available across eBird—a partnership with the Macaulay Library that now allows you to drag-and-drop your media right into any eBird checklist, archiving it in Macaulay.
