Checklist Comments

A pretty ridiculous morning, resulting from weeks and weeks of continuous north winds bottling up migrants. The dam broke. Stationary from the intersection of all the trails in the big center field for about 90 minutes, and then wandered harrier trail and the perimeter. Sustained overnight SW winds continuing into the morning and scattered rain and thunderstorms right at dawn.

    Details

Unbelievable movement overhead along the lakeshore in the early morning, and even some occasional small groups in the late morning. A few flocks of close to 50 birds, with many small groups of 5 or 6 coursing overhead just after dawn. Oddly silent, or maybe the noise from the shoreway drowned out the flight calls. A few briefly touched down in the trees on the perimeter, and one male even landed in the field for a bit before a Red-winged Blackbird chased it out.

    Details

Unbelievable flight, constant stream of buntings overhead in multiple directions all morning. Groups of around 10 birds common, we'd rarely go more than 30 seconds without hearing flight calls when we were in the field.
