Checklist Comments

The fields today were covered with a light layer of snow. Temperatures on arrival were somewhere in the mid-20s. It was an incredible, incredible day to be able to see three different kinds of longspurs.

Really good looks on the side of the road but at a dangerous spot to pull over/take photos unfortunately.

Probably a low count. Most seen at once was 2. However, kept seeing them in multiple areas around. Impossible to count due to constant movement. I would think 5 in the area.

Male, in-between breeding plumage. Bright chestnut-colored nape, dark belly coming in, black ear streaks, light supercilium, lots of photos incoming, back of camera photos for now, I will switch them out. Beautiful bird, basically stuck to the road all day.

Thanks McKay for picking this bird out from among so many Horned Larks. Incredible find and the second time in a row with me that he has spotted a Chestnut-collared Longspur in a big group of Horned Larks.

    Details

Brief point blank views. Very nondescript Longspurs with light mustache and supercillium, slight dark V band in the chest, and a large pink bill. I’m assuming first winter male as it was showing signs of a dark V band, but still had no rusty red in the shoulder. Lacking in white or black in the cheek like a LALO.

Incredible spot by McKay and amazing views through scope. Wow, wow, wow.
