50% cloud cover, 1-3 mph wind, 54*F; Trip # 406. Morro Bay Bird Festival all-day (7 AM-3 PM) boat trip out of Morro Bay Landing aboard the Endeavor captained by Brad League. Leaders were Tom Edell, Curtis Marantz, Wes Fritz, and Peter Gaede. From the dock the boat exited the harbor and then headed northwest to off Point Estero. From there we headed north to a spot called the gully (located west of Cambria), then continued northwest to Point Piedras Blancas, before turning southeast back to the harbor. On our way back, we put out a fish oil slick that we monitored for a while at the gully. This checklist covers the fourth leg of the trip from the underwater feature known as the "gully" to Point Piedras Blancas and back to the "gully". We laid down a fish oil slick after returning to the "gully" and waited beside if for about 30 minutes. The eBird phone app determined the total mileage for this trip leg.

briefly seen on the water and then flying away. This was a small shearwater that was very dark above and white below. The white below wrapped up onto the rear flanks, the undertail coverts were white, and the white underwing appeared unmarked other than outlined in black and with black in the primaries. A few poor photos were taken and at least one will be added to the checklist.
