"On the 3rd January 1939, on a farm adjoining the Caniceira marsh near Abrantes, my friend W.A.Tait had occasion to closely observe a female Garganey, one of five taken the previous year as nestlings and brought up on the farm with the domestic ducks. The other Garganeys soon took flight but this particular bird stayed on until the Autumn when it also returned to the marsh and was not seen again. According to subsequent reports the Garganey continues to breed there. There are also breeding reports of a species of teal from the Telhado marsh, near Bemposta, in the same district."
