New York State Young Birders Club walk. Pleasant and productive morning, starting with a light autumnal chill and developing into a warm, sunny day with clear skies. Light NW winds overnight produced some movement of migrants, contributing to good diversity on the ground. Observed multiple Fowler’s Toads along the swale trail. A loose pintail decoy at the boat basin briefly fooled us. Most of the club members documented lifers this morning

Multiple individuals were observed actively hunting, including one that grabbed a White-throated Sparrow and was chased away by a second hungry hawk. A confiding adult perched at close range on the Coast Guard Station fence before flying directly at us in pursuit of prey
