Flyover calling with distinct flatulent call, unable to relocate on ground
Details
Intriguing small heron/egret that flew in at dawn from south with group of Great Blue Herons. Lighting was terrible but the bird appeared as dark (or perhaps darker) then the Great Blue Herons. Took a number of photos but can't get enough out of them for an ID. Most of group appeared to drop down into the Oxbow but fog made viewing impossible. Once the fog burned off I checked the Oxbow as well as the Mill River marsh and a few other likely spots in the area without any luck relocating. A few other birders also checked some nearby areas with no luck. Managed some marginal photos that at least show overall size and shape compared to GBHE. Photos attached...cropped but not changed otherwise (tried to brighten some but could get no details from that attempt)
