Checklist Comments

80s, mostly clear skies, calm, high tide made for tough walking on the beach. Brutal outing. Walked some with Mike Collins and Jonathon Snyder on the way back north.

Southbound over the water but in close; a surprise at this location but I guess the species is on the move.

    Details

Large cinnamon colored shorebird showing very long, upturned bill (pink at base to halfway mark then black tipped). Stuck out like a sore thumb from surrounding Willets even as a silhouette in the sun light. Surprisingly this individual is still continuing along the beach from possibly as long ago as early August (presuming this is the same individual). It was observed today heading both south and north roughly a half mile south of the southern of the two beach boardwalk access trails. Viewed briefly with Mike Collins and Jonathan Snyder on my trip back north before it flew south around us; lovely bird to view in flight over the water in good light. One of only four individuals noted this fall in the city as a whole.
