An uncommon and dull nuthatch of open primary pine forests. Distinctive in its plainness, lacking any bright coloration; gray-backed and white-bellied, with a black line running from the eye to the shoulder. Does not have any warm colors under the vent, unlike Chestnut-vented and Eurasian Nuthatches.
