A small, short-tailed yellowish finch. It is bright yellow below with a yellow eyebrow and cheek patch. The upperparts are grayish green with streaks. Females are duller colored than males. Found in dry grassy areas and brushy areas, often in flocks with other species. The pleasant song is a rapid series of high-pitched musical chips. Native to Africa, introduced to the Hawaiian Islands, Mauritius, and Puerto Rico.
