Identification

POWERED BY MERLIN

Distinctive warbler endemic to Colombia’s Santa Marta Mountains. It has a mostly black head, yellow crown and underparts, and a buffy stripe between the eye and bill. White outer tail feathers are often flared out conspicuously while it is feeding. Inhabits middle to upper levels of cloud forest, and often joins mixed species flocks. Song is a long, chaotic series of squeaks that gradually gets louder; also gives a rapid series of tic notes. Often seen along the road in the higher parts of El Dorado Nature Reserve.
