Identification

POWERED BY MERLIN

A sleek bird with a gray back, white chest and collar, and a bright red head. Immatures look similar to adults, but are brown instead of red. Similar to Red-crested Cardinal, but lacks a crest. Introduced to the Hawaiian Islands where it is common in lowland areas on Hawaii Island only; more numerous on the drier western side of the island but spreading to the eastern side.
