UNTERSTÜTZT VON MERLIN

Unique black-and-white monarch endemic to Yap, in Micronesia, where it inhabits various forested lowland habitats, including mangroves and coastal scrub. Male has a white body and black head, wings, and tail. Female is black overall, with a white collar that widens at the chest. Juvenile is dull brown overall with a grayish head and buffy underparts; older immatures are blotchy black-brown-and-white. Forages slowly and methodically. Gives rasping and high-pitched squealing calls. Song is a series of bright, high-pitched whistles.
