A huge, distinctive brown-and-white honeyeater. The entirely dark naked head and dull gray-brown upperparts contrast strongly with the uniform creamy-white neck and underparts. A canopy dweller, found singly and in pairs in mangroves, forest edges, and other modified lowland habitats, often around rural villages. Avoids densely vegetated areas. Unique within its limited range in the Admiralty Islands. Raucous calls include explosive, repetitive “CHOO-POW” phrases, often given in quick succession, making them impossible to ignore. Also reported to give cackles, screeches, and yelps.
