A medium-sized tern with entirely white plumage and a slightly forked tail. The bill is black with a blue base. Graceful and buoyant in flight. Abundant on the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands. On the main Hawaiian Islands it nests only in large trees in urban and suburban areas of Honolulu. Sometimes flies very high in pairs or trios. Often seen offshore from boats.
