Identification
Small and distinctive honeyeater with a short and decurved bill, endemic to the montane forests of Taliabu. Male is strikingly beautiful, bright red overall with black wings, belly, and tail. Female is distinctive, but not as eye-catching, being mostly brownish with dark wings and some red on the face. Like many other myzomelas, readily encountered at flowering trees. Song consists of a rising series of short, high-pitched metallic notes followed by a cascade of lower notes.
