Identification

POWERED BY MERLIN

Warm cinnamon-brown owl with a white throat and dark eyes, endemic to the island of Makira (or San Cristobal) in the southeastern Solomons. Unlikely to be mistaken for another species in its very limited range. Inhabits lowland and foothill forests, up to at least 920 meters. Song is a rather machine-like series of husky “poot” notes. One regarded as one species, lumped together with Malaita, Guadalcanal, and West Solomon Owls under the umbrella “Solomons Boobook.”
