A small bunting of montane areas. During the breeding season, restricted to areas primarily between 1,500 and 2,100 meters above sea level; moves lower during the winter, but still tends to prefer valleys in mountainous and hilly areas. Both sexes are distinctive within their range and habitat; male is grayish blue with a white belly, while the female is brown overall with a paler belly and a dirty-orange head.

When applicable, eBird generally defers to bird records committees for records formally considered to be of "uncertain provenance". Provisional species count in official eBird totals.
Escapee: Exotic species known or suspected to be escaped or released, including those that have bred but don't yet fulfill the criteria for Provisional. Escapee exotics do not count in official eBird totals.
