Identification
Tiny finch of tropical lowlands and foothills, especially in drier areas. Endemic to West Mexico, where it is found in open woodland, forest edge, and clearings with trees. Usually in pairs, sometimes small groups, often feeding at mistletoe. Male has black head and throat with yellow forehead patch and white undertail coverts; female rather drab yellowish below and olive above. The only other euphonia in West Mexico is Elegant Euphonia, which has a distinctive blue crown and nape.
