Identification

POWERED BY MERLIN

Small skulking thrush, far more often heard than seen. Distinctive if seen well: all sooty gray, darkest on forehead, with whiter belly. Staring pale eye with bright red-orange eyering, bill, and legs. Sexes alike. Found in middle and high elevation forests, always low to the ground; can be seen along trails but usually quite shy. Song consists of simple flutelike phrases, often repeated.
