This handsome warbler is only known from Cerro Guaiquinima, a remote tepui (table mountain) in southeastern Venezuela. It is so difficult to reach that very few birders or ornithologists have ever seen one. It has yellow underparts, mostly gray upperparts, a black crown, broken eyering, and white outer tail feathers. The black crown, gray face, and yellow throat distinguish it from other redstarts in the region.
