Identification

POWERED BY MERLIN

A large, robust rusty lark with a short crest, hefty bill, and rufous wing panel that is obvious in flight. Blackish on the back and heavily streaked below, with a rufous wash on the chest. Pairs are resident in montane grassland. The song is a short and simple whistled “tree-tyou”, which is repeated after a brief pause. Separated from other larks in its range by its larger size and larger bill.
