Identification

POWERED BY MERLIN

Resembles a miniature chicken while walking quietly with a cocked tail on the forest floor. Typically shy and very difficult to see. Note the prominent orange-rufous crown that contrasts with its dark brown body. Juveniles have a black mask, a white chin and throat, and a grayish breast. The song is a long trill increasing in volume towards the end, usually delivered from a slightly raised perch such as a fallen log.
