Chunky, mostly black robin-like bird. The male has a white crown, while the female shows a white throat with some scaly dark markings. Both sexes have a large white panel in the wing. Found in woodland and scrub, often in rocky areas and near human habitation. The song is a variable, exuberant mix of whistling and rattling calls. Very similar to Arnot’s Chat, but usually separated by range, and also identified by the single large white patch on the wing, as opposed to one large patch and a smaller disconnected one.
