Identification
A small honeyeater of montane forest on Goodenough Island, off of southeast Papua New Guinea. Male unmistakeable with a black hood, belly, wings and tail, and bright red breast, back, rump and collar. Female mainly brown, with red on the chest and rump. Distinctive as the only myzomela in its highly restricted range. Separated from Red-capped Flowerpecker by its much longer bill, and from all sunbirds by the red in the plumage. Voice not well known, but probably energetic twitters and whistles, similar to Red-collared Myzomela.
