Fairly small, chunky tanager with stout bill. Almost entirely blue, darker indigo on head, paler cerulean towards tail. Bright lemon-yellow throat distinctive; also look for inconspicuous chestnut undertail coverts. Sexes alike. Uncommon around forests and edges in subtropical zone, usually in pairs or small groups. Tends to stay at lower or middle levels of trees and shrubs, often following a mixed-species flock.
