Identification

ALIMENTÉ PAR MERLIN

Striking black-and-yellow bird found in the subtropical zone of the Andes from extreme western Venezuela to Bolivia. The bill is pale and pointed, typical of the blackbird family. Look for its conspicuous yellow rump. Northern population has yellow slash on the shoulder, which southern population lacks. Also note difference in eye color. Pairs or small flocks are uncommon in cloud forest from around 1,800–3,100 m, higher than any similar caciques. Sometimes joins groups of jays or tanagers.
