Identification

POWERED BY MERLIN

A medium-sized green parakeet with a long tail and a red face. Similar to Red-masked Parakeet, but the red on the face is usually less extensive and Mitred lacks the red underwings seen on Red-masked. Introduced to Hawaii; occurs on northeastern Maui and possibly other islands but its status is uncertain because of difficulty in distinguishing this species from Red-masked Parakeets and possible hybridization. Calls are loud screeches.
