Identification

POWERED BY MERLIN

Small flycatcher restricted to mountains in southeastern Venezuela and adjacent parts of Brazil and Guyana. Plumage is olive with tawny on the breast and lower underparts. Formerly considered a subspecies of the very similar McConnell's Flycatcher, but it sounds different and is found at higher elevations. Separated from Ochre-bellied Flycatcher by lack of wingbars and different voice. Stays fairly low in humid forest, and sometimes joins mixed species flocks. Males loosely congregate in display areas where they sing a short, falling then rising metallic trill. Also gives chaotic bursts of modulated notes as well as sharp chips.
