Identification

POWERED BY MERLIN

An ebony shadow trailing obsidian tresses, this medium-sized drongo has two extravagantly long plume-tipped tail feathers when in breeding plumage. Glossy black overall with red eyes. Can be confused with the larger Greater Racket-tailed Drongo, but Lesser is crestless and oddly flat-headed, with a more square-ended tail. Inhabits mid- to high-altitude tropical forests, where it is most easily seen at forest edges or clearings.
