A small, plump, short-tailed quail of dense grasslands. Smaller than all other gamebirds in Hawaii. Secretive and rarely seen. Sometimes flushes unexpectedly at close range. Most often detected in the early morning by its soft sneezy call. Introduced to Hawaii and found on all of the main islands, but most often reported from Hawaii Island.
