Identification
Large hummingbird with a long, forked tail found only in the Andes of northwestern Peru. Rare and known from very few sites. It has glistening-green upperparts and gray underparts, and the adult male has a blue throat patch. Inhabits scrub, especially in and around areas with steep-walled canyons. Feeds on a wide variety of flowers, and sometimes pierces the base of larger blooms to reach the nectar.
