Identification

A relatively thick-bodied, long-tailed warbler, prone to creeping like a mouse low in vegetation. Dark brown above. Chest and face paler orange-rusty with a dark eye-stripe. Endemic to the island of Espiritu Santo, in northern Vanuatu. Favors undergrowth of humid montane forest between 750 and 1500 meters of elevation, but occurs rarely almost down to sea level. Most common call consists of explosive, harsh scolding notes. Once treated as the same species as Guadalcanal Thicketbird, but now regarded as separate species.
