Identification

POWERED BY MERLIN

Large and pugnacious, this common tit of forests, farmland, and gardens is the East Asian counterpart of the Great Tit but is much less colorful. Adult has a flashy white cheek on a black head, a black stripe on a white belly, and gray wings with a hint of green near the shoulder. Juveniles are duller, replacing the adult’s black with gray. Calls and songs both incorporate a repeated tzi-hei tzi-hei.
