Endemic to Australia, this enormous flightless bird has drooping gray shaggy plumage. Its large size makes it unlikely to present any difficulty with identification. Dark head and a shaggy-feathered neck separate this bird from female Ostrich. Hatchlings have distinctive stripes throughout. Juvenile and immature birds are darker than adults, and more feathered on their necks. Prefers open country, where they can be found walking around in loose flocks ranging from a few birds up to hundreds.
