Identification
A small rare, and very little-known bird of treefall gaps in lowland and foothill primary forest. Pale blue underparts, deeper blue back and brownish wing. Prominent black eye-stripe, mustache stripe and less distinct crown stripe. Female has a white belly. Forages in the undergrowth. Does not co-occur with similar Campbell’s Fairywren. Emperor Fairywren male is deeper blue and more restricted to secondary growth. Call described as a series of many quick high-pitched notes.
