Identification

POWERED BY MERLIN

An all-black, medium-sized drongo with a long forked tail and a strong bill. Juveniles usually have gray-white mottling on the belly. All ages show a small white spot at the base of the bill. It is common in open countryside habitats such as farms, fields, and wetlands where it perches on a vantage point and pounces on or chases unsuspecting insects, small birds, and animals. It is aggressive towards larger birds or those competing for resources. Its sounds include a number of harsh and metallic notes.
