An exceedingly rare Javan endemic starling now probably extinct in the wild. Brownish mantle, black chest and upperparts, with white belly, rump, cheek and shoulder stripe. Note the entirely ivory bill, pink legs and bare, red skin around and behind the eye. Unmistakeable, but be careful with escapee Asian Pied Starling that have black mantle, white forecrown and/or red on part of the bill. Previously seen in loose flocks, feeding on the ground of open areas, but now likely wiped out by capture for the cage bird trade. Song, a long, varied series of croaking, buzzing and shrill notes including mimicked sounds of other birds.
