Identification
A hardy nuthatch restricted to the expansive northern forests of central and northeastern Siberia. Very similar in appearance to Eurasian Nuthatch, of which it was formerly treated as a subspecies; gray above and white below, with a narrower and shorter black “mask” stripe than Eurasian. Hitches along trunks and larger branches. Listen for ringing song, as well as harsh rattled and drawn-out “naaaah” calls.
