    Details

Presumed hybrid male showing intermediate plumage features and some structural characters intermediate. I noted what seemed like a short and blunt point of black at the right breast side, and this seemed to be absent on the left side. An oval white facial patch was slightly pointed dorsally and less round than that of male Common Goldeneye but not the arc-like crescent of Barrow’s. This bird also seemed show more Common Goldeneye traits on its left side than on its right. Similar to how the reduced breast spur was absent on the left, the facial patch was more rounded and like Common Goldeneye on the bird’s left side. This bird had a lattice of white bars on the scapulars, but these were broader than expected on pure Barrow's. Moreover, there was a broad white expanse in two sections of the folded wing below these bars and separated by a thin black line. Again, this white was more extensive and more like Common .goldeneye on the left side of the bird. This suggests that the greater and median coverts were broadly white, unlike Barrow's Goldeneye. The head shape was a bit intermediate but did at times seem to show a Barrow's-like mane at the rear of the head and rather steep forehead, but the crown showed a high peak at the top center of the crown like Common Goldeneye. The bill was more like Barrow's in shape being less bulky and thick. The head gloss was greenish at the rear and indeterminate blackish anterior to that.
