Details
This male Anas genus duck was found by George Forsyth. It appears it cannot be IDed without a DNA sample. GF has nine excellent photos here: https://ebird.org/canada/checklist/S83622148
Note: Tony Leukering and Steve Mlodinow agreed to an ID as Mexican Duck but others see it as a very strange ABDU X MALL hybrid.
Brian Sullivan wrote "Given the propensity for American Black Duck and Mallard to hybridize with regularity where the two meet, it seems likely that this is some F2 or beyond back-cross hybrid of those taxa rather than a Mexican Duck. It just happens to look VERY much like a Mexican Duck. The thing that really sticks out to me is the pattern of the speculum, which is wrong for Mexican Duck in lacking the bold white borders on both sides, but is perhaps indicative of a hybrid in that it looks intermediate between what one would expect of Mallard and Black Duck.”
