Checklist Comments

Seabirding pelagic trip aboard the Stormy Petrel II from the shelf break offshore to about 800 fathoms (4,800 feet) and back inshore to the shelf break. Winds picked up a bit while we were offshore to about 15 mph, skies were partly cloudy. We had a couple of flocks that we saw in the distance, so we picked up and ran to those, otherwise we were moving slowly with the chum.

Observations

  1. Number observed:  1

    Details

Photographed in one of the shearwater flocks we found, looks like young individual

  2. skua sp.

    Number observed:  1

    Details

Seen distantly flying high then harassing shearwaters, photos verify skua, presumably South Polar with pale nape and cooler tones, but leaving as skua sp since we did not see it will enough to rule out Great Skua with certainty.

    Number observed:  228

    Details

Cory's / Scopoli's - individuals that were not identified by photo to one species or the other, most of these were likely Atlantic Cory's - we did not see very many questionable individuals in the field, but beginning in 2020 we have been splitting individuals we photograph and identify into the subspecific categories in eBird.
