Details
Immature male singing on Rhode Island rd.; likely dispersal into sub-par habitat though they could easily breed on adjacent private properties. First for Sakonnet Point.
Details
*Rare but annual in small numbers; distant delicate dark-mantled gull (3rd cycle?) feeding with other gulls on the ocean. Sooty brown in mantle and wing-color (likely molting from dark brown immature feathers to adult gray), with dark-tipped tail contrasting with bright white rump. Small-billed, slender-winged and only slightly smaller than nearby Herring Gulls. Easy comparison to Herring, Great Black-backed, and several Laughing. My first for Sakonnet Point.
