    Details

First mistaken for Great Blue Heron, but "legs" were actually a tail upon closer observation. Blackish bird with pale secondary coverts, pale head and breast with pale hooked bill. Ned Brinkley notes the dark bar between the white breast and belly is a good field mark for a second-cycle bird. Slow flapping flight and large in size, heading south along beach close to shore.
