    NFC 1 | This bird must have been at treetop height over the backyard when calling. Might be possible it settled into the beaver pond last night to wait out the rain. I considered BCNH or YCNH but it doesn't quite fit the call of either (no 'wok' for BCNH and not raspy enough for YCNH, wrong pitch for both). I reviewed audio of the smaller herons and egrets, and couldn't find anything close. I did find some calls of a Least Bittern (ML617315624 & ML617282516) which are nearly identical and it does look like they're moving through the area (one was seen at Lake Surf within the past week.)
