Observations

  1. Number observed:  510

    Details

First major increase. Units 5, 3 (most 3) At least ~20% hym or fem showing notably less white in panels. Two smaller probable GWTE with one group very briefly seen as they dropped between the cattails.

  2. Number observed:  6

    Details

In the more recently opened and flooded area of Unit 5- somewhat segregated from larger BWTE group. Eclipse/ f-type

  4. Number observed:  4

    Details

3 by near simultaneous grunt calls in unit 7 (only 1 SORA there) 1 in unit 6- cattail. Two indiv's closely associating in unit 7 also giving incessant harsh dry "keck" calls- one of those observed at close range- notably dull-billed indiv. This is the first I've heard this particular call in migration or at any time during their winter stay here in N-w La. Sounded somewhat like "kidik" breeding calls but shortened somewhat to single syllable and muffled. The only other call I hear during their stay besides the descending "oreenk" grunt-series is a much less commonly heard shrill, ascending "shreeee"
