Details
I was specifically looking for the "coastal" cactus wren and these birds had the requisite characters - spotting not coalescing, flanks not nearly as rich in color. There seems to be some discrepancy in Birds of the World though - the text suggests ssp sandiegensis is part of the "continental" group (brunneicapillus group) but then farther down the page in the eBird groupings it has sandiegenesis within the "peninsular" group (affinis group). This confusion seems to match the confusion between genetics and morphology?
